30 Minutes for 30 Days, Day 7: One Whole Week!

Welcome to Day 3 of my 30 Minutes for 30 Days series!  If you are just joining me, you can find out how this all got started HERE.  You can read all the 30 for 30 posts HERE.

Woohoo!  When today's session is over I will have completed one whole week of cleaning, neatening, organizing, and DECLUTTERING!

My 30-for-30 session today will be spent in the part of the kitchen that we call the schoolroom.  This area is off to the side of the kitchen, and when the back door is open it is easy to just breeze by it without really looking at it.  This makes it a much-too-handy dumping ground for things that I don't want to deal with.  Today, that pattern ends.  Today, I start dealing.

For The Minimalist Game I am getting rid of:

  1. A collection of Wii remote accessories.
  2. A stack of fabric that I was given but will never use.
  3. A set of curtains.  I have no idea where they came from.
  4. A small stack of pillowcases that I was what?  Hoarding?  Are you sure?
  5. A box I found in the art room that had things I was going to give away LAST CHRISTMAS.  It had become lost in the avalanche.
  6. More books for the Little Free Library.
  7. Some books and CDs that we will sell at McKay's Used Bookstore.

By the time I got to this blog post, I had already put the boxes in the van.

To give you some idea of how bad things were in the art room:
that box in the middle of the stack was the one that was LOST IN THE AVALANCHE SINCE LAST CHRISTMAS.

<insert shame smiley here>

...of which today there were 57 discrete individual items.  FIFTY-SEVEN.  Yes, I counted.  That means that in one week I have removed approximately160 items from my home and from my life.

As of today I have also spent 3 1/2 hours cleaning, decluttering, and organizing my home this week. Doing a short session every day has been un-intimidating and non-stress-inducing, yet so productive. I had to see it to believe it, but now I believe it.

The weekend is here!  I'm going to continue my 30-for-30 sessions, but I'm also going to take time to enjoy the fruits of my efforts in the art room.  What are you doing this weekend?

  1. I've been (loosely) doing the challenge, and even though I missed a day or two, what I have done has made a difference. When my husband saw me straightening out my desk with a garbage can on one side of me and a purge box on the other, he wanted to know who I was, and what I had done with his wife, lol. I haven't kept track of the number of things I've tossed, since most has been old junk mail, store flyers, notes and lists written and forgotten, etc. I really need to focus on dealing with these things as I touch them the first time, and not create pile-y stacks that get shuffled from desk to counter to random box. I have a box of items to donate and will just keep adding to it until it's full. Then I WILL take it (along with the other 3 donate boxes sitting in my trunk for the past 6 months) to goodwill.

  2. Glad to see this. I actually dreamed about you last night. You were doing a video on some complicated sewing piece. It was colorful and you were busy sewing on a machine and talking to your audience. Ha! Visions of the next Martha Stewart? ;)
